I would love to do the campaign hat, especially since it does have a good history. It's in my list of researched hats I just have to find one that fits my fat head. I'm trying to keep up the "I show off hats I own" thing for as long as I actually can.

LOL, don't miss my Saying it's my favorite hat. But it was sort of a "don't meet your heroes" situation. After some research I was very sad to learn about all the reasons it is hated modern day. I have never really seen it for hate groups either but I have met total assholes wearing trilbies who also go on rants about how sophisticated the style of a fedora is and blah blah blah who deff haven;t helped with the image of the fedora.

I hope you do a history of the campaign hat.

Nice video but I think that a Fedora stung you as a child. ;-) I have not run into any sort of hate group wearing Fedoras locally.  Just old grizzly Alaskans who like to keep their heads dry.  Trilbies do seem to be a drug dealer badge.

This was taken in 1889 in Juneau, AK.

There was also a slightly broader brimmed wool rain repellent version half way between a Fedora and a Hollywood cowboy hat for the Pacific Northwest since the 1860s.  Pendleton still makes these and they are popular here https://www.pendleton-usa.com/product/outback-hat-30693.html?dwvar_... (they even put the original date inside) and now Stetson makes a similar wool rain hat that is again about half Fedora.   There seems to be some evolutionary connection here that you might find more on.

We live in a RAINforest and bear country so you really want to wear a hat and hoodies disconnect you too much form your surroundings so a bear might pass you in the woods.

Keep up the good work.
