Apparently, JRR had a very specific meal plan for the 'supper' made available to the dwarven guests in Bilbos home.

Cake from a 100 year old recipe, from the historic Driskill hotel in Austin, TX. A very Victorain/steampunky looking place.

I caught this on the Retronaut and thought it cute and doable. Perhaps one or two of the 'local' tinkers hereabouts.

Butterbeer, that sugary sweet drink imbibed by many young witches and wizards seeking a break from eye-of-newt and wing-of-bat available at The Three Broomsticks and I assume very shortly at The Rejected Gear.

1/4 cup sweetened condensed milk
1/4 cup butterscotch topping
2 tablespoons whipped butter, room temperature
1 1/2 cups vanilla cream soda

Combine condensed milk, butterscotch topping, and butter in a glass heatproof measuring cup. Heat in microwave for 1 minute. Remove and stir until butter has melted and incorporated into mixture. Meanwhile heat cream soda in another heatproof measuring cup for 1 minute 30 seconds.

Divide butterscotch mixture between 2 (10 to 12-ounce) mugs. Fill mugs with heated cream soda and stir thoroughly. Serve garnished with an old-fashioned butterscotch candy stick.

I would recommend for 'the-less-likely-to-drink-maple-syrup-from-the-bottle-crowd' a dram of whisky/ey. Fine hot on a cold evening, like toddy or cocoa.

Upon my word, I shall attend a fancy dinner with flying monkey plates to dine from and a winged monkey chapeau upon my pate.

For our Hitchhiker fans who aren't interested in trekking to infinity and the other side of the galaxy just for a drink...
