Well, the gag reflex is not a problem, it's just the hanger catches on my uvula on the withdrawal!
Soon I will attempt a butter knife....on a string, just in case! *programming 911 into contact list* :)
Dr. Tarr, are we the only attendees, or are we supposed to be the attraction? :)
I’ve read where many, if not the majority, of ‘Sideshow’ attractions were gaffs, and that most of the later ‘stars’ became rather famous and made quite a bit of money as such, mainly because they would not be accepted in the ‘normal’ working world and did not want to live off of state funds.
To some, the sideshow was their only source of employment, if they did not wish to take ‘charity’
Perhaps, in the distant past, some parents ‘sold’ their children to sideshows (who would really be considered the freak, then, in that respect?) and may have been treated cruelly (as was the case with Joseph Merrick), but some were treated better than if they had remained with their own ‘kind’ because they were accepted by the others, and their ‘owners’ (I hate using that word when it comes to humans) treated them well since, after all, it was their livelihood as well.
It continues in today’s society in ‘reality’ shows such as "Little People, Big World’, "Abby & Brittany" and most recently "Freakshow". There have also been movies/documentaries, one of the most famous Tod Browning's "Freaks", and countless books written by the people (which is what they are) themselves.
Let’s face it, most people are sincerely curious, and then there are some who are just arse-holes. Everyone is different, if not always on the outside, they are on the inside (not the blood, guts, organs, bones etc.; in that we are all pretty much the same, I mean...well, you know what I mean.)
What is needed is for parents to teach their children not to be judgmental of a person’s appearance. Some of the most attractive people on the outside are the most evil and twisted on the inside (again, not the blood and guts :)
Yep, and that concludes my sermon for the day :P
Oh, now you’ve done it, Dr. Tarr!!! Gwyn has been annoying me about taking up sword swallowing for quite some time now!
Thankfully, only she will have to learn to control the gag reflex. :)
