I have this box you see, it's solid wood, lined with brown looking velvety material, metal feet two handles on either side and it had a spot for a lock but it was broken when I received it. It also used to have a placard on the top but it again was gone when I received it. If you guys a hint I'd be glad to know. Also I can send other photos via email to anyone that thinks they have an idea and need to look at it. There are no visible makers marks on it .. Thanks guys! Also, happy holidays :D

Definitely a jewelry box, dear.

Right now my computer is on the fritz and using my cell doesn't work all that well. I, however, can email them to you if you'd like to see more photos :)

The wood appears to be heavily shellaced white pine, your velvety material looks very much like velvetine, those chains are brass I'm guessing and I would really like to see more before I give you an absolute answer, but my guess as is, is it's a Taiwanese import from the early '70's.
