Preparation for a Steampunk-Inspired Cigar Humidor

After several years of - dare I say - complacency and more consuming than creating, I've decided that it's time to  pick up a new set of tools and begin a creative process once again.

This process will involve buying a new set of tools - hand saws, hand planes, files, hammers, etc - and constructing a new saw bench and table.  The goal is to build a tall cabinet humidor, using only hand tools with the exception of possibly a power drill for setting the hinges.

The humidor will be a tall, cabinet humidor with a set of narrow glass-front double doors. The exterior is planned to be 1-inch hemlock with either a red oak finish or a honey maple finish (I'm still torn between the two, as I love the look of both finishes). The interior will of course be lined with 3/4 inch Spanish cedar. With interior measurements of 50"H x 34"W x 13"D, this should give me approximately 13 square feet of capacity, not including upper 'attic' space and lower drawer space (where humidifiers and spare storage space can be held).

This will leave me sufficient space to place 3-4 angled shelves for cigar boxes as well as units along the bottom for singles.

I'm looking at this project, once begun, taking quite a bit of time, possibly a few months depending on what else I have going on, but I'm excited to begin and create something both useful (at least for me), and beautiful!

I've included the first layer of the basic concept mock-up for this project, not including any real details (doors, hydrometer, accents, etc.  I will continue posting and including these things as they come along though!
