Testing of a new swordstick

Wilhelm was smiling as he walked in the door of his gym. Shankar beside him with a much sterner expression. His Nepali accent was rather thicker then normal as he spoke. "I do not feel that you need such a weapon. It's clumsier then you are used to even with your proficiency. Nor do I think such force is required."

Wil just laughed amiably. "I know your doubts and your fears my friend. After recent events and with some of the letters I have received I remain sure of my decision. A…

A New Way to Fight (A Collaboration between Wilhelm A. Heizeltroff and Lady Brielle Serra

Wil smiled at Brielle and chuckled as he took of his coat and vest. Setting them aside he donned his usual leather vest but chose to leave off the canvas shirt and wore his normal one.

Going to the wall he grabbed a small blade roughly the same size and weight as the one he'd given to Brielle. He also brought a wooden sheath the same length as the parasol. Setting them down on a bench near to Brielle he also handed her a stiff leather vest to put over her gown as well as some leather…

A sparring match

Wilhelm stood at ease in the gym at his lab. He'd been in the lab for days and realized he'd been ignoring his physical needs. After eating and cleaning himself up he decided he could use a good sparring match with Shankar. It had been some time it was best he not let his skills get rusty. Especially if he wished to continue visiting the gear.

His jacket and waist coat hung from pegs on the wall. A stiff leather vest over a canvas shirt had replaced his usual stylish…

Tinkering in Time

Since Silver was stuck on land for a while, she decided to take up residence close to the Rejected Gear. But there's two things you never let Silver get. first, you never let her get Rum, if you do, it'll never end. second, you never let Silver get bored.

That's just what happened. Whilst sitting in her room throwing things at her door she got a brilliant idea. she tugged out her Ocular with all it's magnification properties. she sat at her table and pulled out eight different pocket…

A Lady Like Escape: There's a First for Everything

Once they reached outside in the cool autumn air, Ara stopped remembering the look that Tim gave her. She thought for a moment. Am I really a good friend? … NAH. She turned to Brielle,

"Listen, love, I forgot I promised myself I'd do something before I left tonight." She said, "Why don't you wait inside while I..."she took a moment, "do what I have to do," she finished, scurrying back inside. She rushed upstairs," be right back!"

Brielle stood outside in the cool…

Back alley politics

I knew they were there ,their vain attempt to hide their scents in the perfume of the street was a good idea but traveling in a group like they were just concentrated the stench of common lap dog. I ducked quickly into the next alley and did a quick once over, few windows and doors all of them closed , dead end lots of clutter this was gonna be just fine. I hid behind a stack of haphazardly stacked crates and waited to see if they were truly stupid enough to follow me in. Soon enough the…

Stand Off

***Please read Back in the Habit first**

“You don’t have to do this”, Tim yelled.

The two men stood, roughly twenty paces apart. The afternoon sun glimmered off of Tim’s sunglasses as the crowd of the town dispersed. With Westminster Abby to his back, the bearded man yelled, “This is the only way that it shall happen, comrade, dragging my carcass through the streets.” In a thick Russian accent.

All was silent aside from the shrieks of the few still dispersing town…

Captain in a Bad Mood

“You’re always doing paperwork” I said to the captain one day. The young girl looked up at me.

“And you’re always hazing Roderick, aiming your revolver at Ezra, shoving Marcus into the wall, -“

“You make it sound like they don’t fight back,” I laughed, “What does that have to do with your paperwork though?” I asked her with a shrug, leaning against the wall. She smiled slightly and sighed.

“I thought we were sharing,” She said warmly.…

A Lesson on the Difference Between Pirates and Mercenaries

A while after my first few weeks at the Rejected Gear, I went to catch up with Leander’s younger brother, Aurelian.  I had told him I was a pirate a long time ago but I don’t think it ever really set in until this conversation.

“So you weren’t kidding. You’re seriously a pirate, Ara? You don’t work; you just steal other people’s hard work?” He asked me over a sip of ale. I expected his reaction to be a little less negatively judgmental but I had to remember that he wasn’t a little…

A Conversation on Pirates and Apology

I shifted my posture slightly in my seat as I felt the dark, almond shaped eyes of Virote’s first mate, MinhTu, staring me down from across the doorway. I kept my unsteady gaze attentive to the wooden floor planks of Captain Bennett’s study. The air in the room was thick with the awkward avoidance of eye contact and unsteady heartbeats of all those waiting for the captain to sign the paper in front of her.

“So these are your terms?”  I perked up when she spoke. Virote gave one slow…

The Shattered Silk

It was all in an honest days work, or so I kept telling myself. I mean, women were not usually allowed on ships of any kind so I had to do something.

How was I going to get to that cargo if I could not even get on the ship?

Then it hit me that there are two socially acceptable professions for a single woman in the Victorian Era. A prostitute and a seamstresses. So I went with the easiest money I could make...a seamstresses.

I would go to the First Mate, I would ask to be…

Back in the Habit

***Please read Back to the Drawing Boards first***

“Will you just stop already??” Tim yelled, running through the streets of White Chapel as he fired the MK2 about a foot over the man’s head he was chasing.

“Christ!!!” The man said in a thick accent, flailing about as he ran through the streets, “You’re going to kill me with that bloody voodoo rubbish you’re shooting at me, why the hell would I stop, you damn yank”

Peter O’Callahan…

Tricked into a Trap

After leaving Felix the note in the Gear, Brielle nervously left to the docks down the way. She picked a complicated route back home, as she did not want Felix to easily find her and interfere with her plan. She was not looking forward to answering for her actions when she got home. However, she had to do what needed to be done to save her sister from the same miserable fate she herself had nearly suffered. Certainly, if she had asked Felix, he would have helped her in her…

Back to the drawing boards

The sun began to peak its head above the horizon. The light winding its way in to every nook and cranny it could find, including the yet completed roof of the lab just on the outskirts of London. Inside sat a sleeping scientist, leaning back on two legs of a chair that had been waging a constant battle with gravity since just after he’d fallen asleep. With sketches on the table, a tool in his hand, and an access panel open on the propulsion pod of the majestic air ship close behind…

A Letter Arrives

Brielle was sitting by the bar in the Rejected Gear, morosely sipping on a glass of sweet white wine and contemplating how her life had been going  lately. She was feeling down on several counts.

For starters, Felix had been preoccupied with finding Tura' lu and when he wasn't off meeting with people trying to make a break through, he was often in the basement training. Even when he was with her, he wasn't really present the way he used to be-his mind was very…

An entry from the Guide to Ruritania, 1889 Edition (II)

In the Kronstadter See Kreis, lying to the northeast of Kronstadt a. d. Elbe is the town of Christianshafen, which is located on the scenic Kronstadter See (Lake Kronstadt). Here Ruritania’s noted aeronautical scientist Prof. Dr. Dipl.-Ing. Friedrich Leopold Graf von Zerneck conducts many of his experiments and it is the site of…

An entry from the Guide to Ruritania, 1889 Edition

The Mückensee (Midge Sea) is a marshy region lying southeast of Strelsau at the confluence of the rivers Strelsau and Elbe. The area is generally avoided by all but the most hardy, for lives have been lost here. Of the area is has been said: “The Mückl (as the lake is sometimes called) is a treacherous foe, for here it was…

Settling in, Growing up, Getting what I wished for, and Regrets

Apologies, it has been a while, but I have been so very busy settling into my new life! Many things have happened since I last posted....firstly, on the professional front, Felix has offered me a position aboard his ship as a medic. He can take pretty good care of himself and his crew on that front, but he seems to believe that he will die and leave his dear crew alone and that they will need someone to take care of them. I cannot think of anyone more woefully unprepared to do that, as if…
